Philosophy and principles

I have been fortunate to have worked alongside some of the most experienced osteopaths in my professional life. I have been involved in continuing theoretical and practical research, involving publishing papers on new theories of anatomical function, and editing text books.

Osteopaths’ fundamental belief is that the body has an innate capacity to heal itself and, where possible, we aim to eliminate the problems that prevent this self regulation happening.

I follow the basic principles of our founder, Andrew T. Still. I follow a philosophy that differs in basic principle from chiropractic, physiotherapy and other therapies, although some of our techniques can overlap.

  • The body is an integrated unit of bones and soft tissues where all systems can be affected by dysfunction in other areas.
  • Healthy blood flow comes from normal mechanical function and is vital in a normally functioning body.
  • The structure and function of the body are inter-related.
  • Weakness and dysfunction in one area of the body can cause pain in any other area. A persistent cough can be caused by a rib injury or a headache can be caused by strain in the neck or back.
  • When treating… FIND IT AND FIX IT AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE
Is your life limited by persistent back, neck or joint pain?
Is your sporting life hampered by persistent injury?
Is your baby often unhappy, restless or suffers unexplained stressful episodes?
